Burgers, beer, crossfit, a doggy spa … Skyway Center is taking shape | Local News | santamariatimes.com

Empty storefronts at the corner of Highway 135 and Skyway Drive are blossoming into commercial retail space, with burgers, brew, an upscale pet spa, nail salon and fitness gyms slated to open in the coming months.

The 5.4-acre site, located at 3596 Skyway Drive and Orcutt Expressway next to Element Church, is set to become a new hot spot for retail use. Dubbed The Skyway Center plaza, the project was approved by the Santa Maria Planning Commission in December 2014.

SANTA MARIA, Calif. – Its being called a new kind of retail experience in Santa Maria at a location that’s been virtually empty for years.

Long-time local residents will remember the location at the northwest corner of Skyway and Broadway as the former home of the Renfrow Airport Auto Center.

Spotlight on: Skyway Center – Santa Maria Sun

The corner of Skyway and Broadway languished for several years following the Great Recession, but construction of the new Skyway Center there will bring a facelift and new commercial and retail space to the valley.

The Skyway Center is not yet finished, and already there is interest in the new complex, which brings more than 30,000 square feet of retail space to the 5.35-acre property. So far, four tenants have signed leases to bring their businesses, according to Julie Sanchez with Santa Barbara-based Province Land Company, which is developing the site.
